HILAT – Who We Are:


High Latitude Energy Consulting Inc. (HILAT) was created to advance remote renewable energy
microgrids across Canada’s north. We are a small, technical team focused primarily on
feasibility studies while supporting all work associated with renewable energy development.
HILAT brings over 7 years of specific experience north of 60 and works closely with Inuit, First
Nations, and Metis communities to advance these goals.

The Opportunity:


High Latitude is seeking an Energy Modeling Specialist. This position requires a motivated
self-starter who can work effectively on their own as well as within a small team. Outside of the
High Latitude team, this position will need to coordinate and work with various levels of
government, First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities and governing bodies, utilities,
funding bodies, regulatory bodies, and third-party consulting firms.
This position is offered as an office-based or remote position, depending on the candidate.
Our offices are located in Whitehorse, Yukon, and Iqaluit, Nunavut.


Employment Status: Permanent Full Time – 40 hours per week


Wage Range: $35 – $40 per hour, based on experience

Job Description:


Typical responsibilities of this job include:


● Collaborate with the Technical Manager and the HILAT team to undertake detailed
energy modeling and design work for microgrids across northern Canada.
● Collect and clean data from a variety of sources (utilities, buildings, wind and solar
measurement equipment)
● Take into consideration the unique challenges of operating in Canada’s north when
modeling and assisting with the design of projects
● Cooperate with the HILAT team and 3
rd parties to complete detailed costing and
corresponding financial analysis.
● Conduct research and provide literature reviews on established and emerging
renewable energy technologies.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
● Post-secondary degree in STEM related fields with a preference for pure and applied
science.
● Proficiency with various modeling and data analysis platforms including but not limited
to HOMER, standard PV and wind modeling software, and data analysis systems such as
R or Python
● Strong working knowledge of energy modeling in the context of renewable energy
● Strong written and oral communication skills including good technical writing skills
● Ability to interpret data and clearly communicate results
● Ability to prioritize projects and tasks within tight timelines
● Attention to detail
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Experience living or working in Canada’s north is an asset
